School Programs

 At MCSL, students of all ages (Pre-School- Child Care Centres ,Years K-12, Stages 1 to 6, plus tertiary students) and community groups can experience first hand how we can all help society 'go green' in both our built and the natural environment. 

The Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living (MCSL) is a Sustainable Education Centre, showcasing and promoting sustainable living. Set on 5.3 hectares in Mt Annan, this unique facility, generates its own power, recycles, reuses rain and waste-water and manages all organic waste on site. The Centre is guaranteed to impress, boasting all aspects of gardening, eco building and technology, green energy, as well as offering a variety of workshops. At MCSL, students of all ages can experience firsthand how we can all help our environment, whilst  meeting the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

 

Centre Tours


General MCSL site tours lasts one to one and a half hours and cost $6.00 per person/student, let us know the date your group is planning on coming to the Centre and we'll organise a guided tour for you.     

 We can tailor tours to address any curriculum need

OOSH or School Holiday Bookings are only made through Fun Day Out on 0421633369  

 For your School Holiday program ring Fun Day Out and they will book you into the Centre's recycle, reduce and reuse program. 

 School Excursions

Half Day School Excursion Programs - Primary Or High School Excursion 

Discover the world at The Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living, a 2hr School Excursion. Learn about sustainability, Chemical Free farming and recycling. Learn how to reduce your waste by worm farming/composting. Experience green energy, fossil fuels and visit MCSL’s chickens, pig and sheep. Let’s go on a scavenger or a bug hunt through MCSL’s vegetable gardens or make a paper pot and plant a seed to take home.


Vegetable Garden Scavenger Hunt  – Program includes learning about recycle, reduce and reuse for  School groups. The group will tour the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living (MCSL) site learning about sustainability, gardening, reduce, and reuse. Let’s go on an interactive sustainable scavenger hunt through MCSL’s Vegetable garden, farm and Eco Buildings.  Is your special place sustainable?

Sustainability and Animals - Program includes learning about recycle, reduce and reuse for  School groups. The group will tour the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living (MCSL) site learning about sustainability, gardening, reduce, and reuse. Learn all about MCSL’s farm animals and what role they play in sustainability. Say hello to Lulu the pig, Bella the Sheep and Marc the Rooster

Food and Water - Program includes learning about recycle, reduce and reuse for  groups. The group will tour the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living (MCSL) site learning about sustainability, gardening, reduce, and reuse. Learn about MCSL’s aquaponic system and how we use water and animals to grow food plants.

Compost & Mini Beasts- Program includes learning about recycle, reduce and reuse for  School groups. The group will tour the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living (MCSL) site learning about sustainability, gardening, reduce, and reuse. Learn about Compost systems and mini beasts in our compost and how they reduce food waste.

Worms & Mini Beasts-Worms-Program includes learning about recycle, reduce and reuse for School groups. The group will tour the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living (MCSL) site learning about sustainability, gardening, reduce, and reuse. Learn about worm farms and mini beasts in our worm farm and how they reduce food waste.

 Bush To Plate- (run by a trained bush tucker chef)-Program includes learning about recycle, reduce and reuse for  School groups. The group will tour the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living (MCSL) site learning about sustainability, gardening, reduce, and reuse. Learn about MCSL’s edible bush tucker food grown in our garden and undertake a cooking class straight from the bush tucker garden.

 Waste and Recycling- Program includes learning about recycle, reduce and reuse for 6-12yrs School groups. The group will tour the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living (MCSL) site learning about sustainability, gardening, reduce, and reuse. Learn how to make a paper pot and plant a vegetable seedling/seed to take home.

Price: $250.00 per excursion up to 25 students. $10.00 per student thereafter


Full Day School Excursion Program- Primary School Excursion 

Discover the Sustainable world at The Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living, a 4hr School Excursion.   

Full Day Excursions of nature and  learning about recycling, reducing and reusing for 6-12yrs. The group will tour the MCSL site learning about sustainability, gardening,  reduce, and reuse, our animals Lulu the Pig, Belle the Sheep and Marco the Rooster, plants, green energy, water and waste collecting.


Sustainable Living: Learn all about Sustainability and cool ways to Reuse, Reduce and Recycle. Learn about Composting, Worm Farming, Reducing Rubbish and making a newspaper pot with a seedling.
Power Sources: Learn all about Renewable and Non-Renewable Energy and how power is generated from the environment. Learn about Solar, Hydro-Electric, Wind energy and Fossil Fuels.
Sustainability In Our Rubbish- Learn about food waste, Food avoidance, food recycling, waste contamination, litter and dumped waste.

Special Requirements:

Enclosed footwear (NO THONGS OR SANDALS)
Appropriate clothing especially if cold or wet, and sunscreen and sunhat
Students will need to bring their morning tea and lunch.

 Price: $375.00 per excursion up to 25 students. $15.00 per student thereafter

Sustainable LivingLearn all about Sustainability and cool ways to Reuse, Reduce and Recycle. Learn about Composting, Worm Farming, Reducing Rubbish and making a newspaper pot with a seedling.
Power Sources: Learn all about Renewable and Non-Renewable Energy and how power is generated from the environment. Learn about Solar, Hydro-Electric, Wind energy and Fossil Fuels.
Sustainability In Our Rubbish- Learn about food waste, Food avoidance, food recycling, waste contamination, litter and dumped waste.
Sustainability Getting REady for Hospitality Exams:Food Waste and Avoidance. Learn all about food wastage in the Hospitality Industry. Learn how to answer HSC Hospitality/Sustainablility Questions.  

Special Requirements:

  • Appropriate clothing especially if cold or wet, and sunscreen and sunhat

  • Students will need to bring their morning tea and lunch.

   Cost:  $500 for 25 student and $20 per student thereafter 


PRE-SCHOOL ACTIVITES AT YOUR CHILD CARE CENTRE OR AT THE CENTRE 

The Centre will come to your ChildCare Centre or you can come to us. Don't wait, ring and get the best sustainable teaching for your students. 

Pre-School Activity 1-2hour of learning about, recycle, reduce and reuse for 6-12yrs groups.  The group will learn about

Wormfarming or Composting or Gardening (No Dig) or Recycling.

Cost:  $250 per childcare Centre plus Travel Costs

 

NESA ACCREDIATION -Teachers Proffessional Development (More Information under Specialized Courses)

We will update your skills in sustainability in a 2 hours or 4 hour training session for Primary and High School teachers. A fun workshop for teachers to learn all about the science of composting and worm farming, recycling, seedling planting, science of no dig gardens, renewable energy and much more
