History
Since the late 1990’s the Botanic Gardens Trust has had plans for a Centre for Urban Horticulture to be based at the Mount Annan Botanic Garden. CERES Community Environment Park in Brunswick, Victoria was the inspiration for Macarthur residents to form CERES Macarthur, with the support of local councils and MACROC.
Together the Botanic Gardens Trust and CERES Macarthur realised their common goals and became founding members of a new non profit company called the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living, and with funding from the Australian Government’s Sustainable Regions Programme, the new company began operations in January 2005.
CERES Macarthur ceased to exist in 2009 and Campbelltown City Council took the lead in setting up a three council group (Campbelltown City, Camden and Wollondilly Councils) to partner with the Botanic Gardens Trust and ensure continuity of the Centre.
